Why should I hire a doula?

The role of a doula is to: provide emotional and practical support, educate, provide comfort, validate, discuss options, hold the space, provide continuity of care, help set birth intentions, respect wishes, mother the mother, work through fears, set up the birth environment, help to create a sense of safety, be a physical presence, and so much more. The list can truly go on and on, especially because each doula can choose to provide a unique wide range of services.

Think of a doula as your go to gal or your maid of honor throughout your time together.

As humans, we are designed to go through life with support and connection. It’s at the basis of our nature. Historically women were uplifted and empowered through labor by the women around them. We are wired to seek an environment in which we feel safe. Doulas bring a modern way to get back to our roots and fulfill that deep desire. And while I may be biased, I whole-heartedly believe without a doubt that the care doulas provide is invaluable.

I like to explain it this way: if you sign up for a marathon would you show up on the day, go with the flow, and expect to run the race to the best of your ability? Or would you train in the months leading up to the physical challenge? Would you maybe even hire a coach to assist you? Labor is one of the most physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding events in a woman’s life. To achieve the best possible outcome, it is your responsibility to play an active role in your experience and the care you receive.

But the statistics truly speak for themselves. Studies have shown that having a Doula may decrease:

Epidural use by 60%
Cesarean birth by 50%
Pitocin use by 40%
Narcotics use by 30%
Length of Labour by 25%

Tiana also helped me make very important choices and gave me the confidence to speak up and advocate for myself

I’m Sophie, mother to three gorgeous children; my youngest, Valentina is now 7 months old. I had a tricky pregnancy the third time around and was blessed to have Tiana support me through the third trimester, birth and post partum period as my doula. It was my first time using a doula, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to have Tiana on my team. She is oh-so-easy to get along with, sweet, supportive and very knowledgable. At our first meeting, my baby was in breech position so I was very keen to use natural methods to attempt to turn her around. Tiana spent many hours showing me different exercises and positions to make this happen… which it did a few days later! Tiana also helped me make very important choices and gave me the confidence to speak up and advocate for myself. This resulted in me having the most wonderful home birth which was an incredibly empowering experience…(although it was a very speedy birth, so luckily she made it just in time!). and I was so happy Tiana was present as my cheerleader. I’m not sure I would have trusted myself to push for a home birth through the public system without Tiana’s encouragement - and now it’s an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life.

(PART 1)

Sophie

I felt very prepared for the birth, emotionally and physically, thanks to Tiana’s guidance. She was also on hand to help during the post partum period. By the third time around, you think you know what you’re doing, but she still had many pearls of wisdom to impart - especially in relation to getting the rest I needed and looking after myself.

It’s often the case that once you have a baby, your own recovery and needs are pushed to the bottom of the priority list - be it a cup of tea, a nap, a reminder not to ‘over do it’, a warm hug or some nourishing food. Having a doula like Tiana means you’ll have somebody who understands your needs as a mother and makes sure they’re met - after all, to be the best mama to your newborn, you can’t be running on half empty!

Thank you Tiana for being a part of the Taylor family and helping make my third (and final) birthing experience one I will cherish always x

Tiana is an amazing person, her passion to ensure you are comfortable throughout your pregnancy and birth is immense.

I had the best experience with my pregnancy and the birth of my daughter, she taught me how to stay calm in a very intense situation. She had so many techniques that she taught me that seemed to help a lot, her knowledge about her job is so good and she knows exactly what she’s doing. I 100% recommend Tiana as a doula!

She is positive and and exactly what a woman needs to feel empowered through pregnancy and labor.

I have loved working with Tiana. She helped me receive the support and preparation I needed to capable of giving birth. I worked with her on a birth plan, preparing physically and mentally, and was able to use her as a guide for support and encouragement to prepare to meet my baby. Her advice alleviated so many fears I’ve had. She is positive and and exactly what a woman needs to feel empowered through pregnancy and labor. I know any woman’s birth experience could be enhanced by working with Tiana.

Madison

Tiana was a huge part of making my pregnancy and birth experience so positive.

We met several times over video chat to ensure that I was prepared both mentally and physically for childbirth. We devised a birth plan, discussed how to express support needs, and how to successfully deliver my daughter. She went above and beyond with finding resources to show me stretches and exercises to help better prepare my body from the beginning to make my birthing experience as smooth as possible. I know without Tiana my birth experience wouldn’t have been as positive. I will definitely use her services again for future children.
